The Financial Groundskeeper

A vibrant garden path lined with colorful bushes and flowers.

Biblical Wisdom. Practical Planning. Seasoned Experience.

For over 20 years, I worked as a groundskeeper and landscaper. That work taught me something valuable: healthy growth does not happen by accident.

A beautiful property requires preparation, pruning, patience, maintenance, and protection. The same is true of a financial life.

At InCareLife Services Inc., the “Financial Groundskeeper” approach combines practical financial planning experience with Biblical financial principles: stewardship, wisdom, contentment, generosity, disciplined planning, and preparation for the next generation.

The InCareLife emphasizes that Biblical financial planning begins with a Biblical worldview, that “God owns it all,” and that financial priorities must be viewed together rather than separately.

“The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
Psalm 24:1 KJV

A Groundskeeper's View of Financial Stewardship

A landscaper learns to look beneath the surface. If the soil is unhealthy, the lawn will struggle. If the roots are weak, the plant will not endure storms. If weeds are ignored, they spread. If pruning is neglected, growth becomes unruly.

Financial planning is similar.

The goal is not simply to own more. The goal is to steward wisely what God has entrusted to us.

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2 KJV

The Four Seasons of Financial Care

1. Prepare the Soil

Before growth comes preparation. This means understanding your income, expenses, debt, insurance, investments, taxes, goals, and family responsibilities.

2. Plant with Purpose

Good financial decisions should be planted with long-term intent. That includes saving, protecting your family, planning for retirement, giving generously, and preparing for future needs.

3. Prune What Hinders Growth

Debt, overspending, lack of margin, poor planning, and unclear priorities can choke financial progress.

“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
Proverbs 22:7 KJV

4. Protect the Harvest

A wise plan considers insurance, estate planning, tax awareness, income planning, and wealth transfer. The InCareLife framework asks three core questions: Who owns it? How much is enough? Is the next steward chosen and prepared?

The Financial Groundskeeper is not about pressure, shame, or fear. It is about helping people make wise decisions rooted in Biblical truth, practical experience, and disciplined planning.

A Thought

Groundskeeper + Advisor

Groundskeeper + Advisor

A groundskeeper does not create the rain, the sunshine, or the seed. He simply works faithfully with what has been entrusted to him.

That is the heart of Biblical financial stewardship.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance.”
Proverbs 21:5

A Groundskeeper and a Financial Advisor share a common mission: cultivating growth by tending to small details that yield long-term results today.

Both roles require ongoing maintenance—just as a garden must be weeded and pruned, a financial plan must be regularly reviewed and adjusted.

They are also protectors, guarding against threats that could erode the value of what they care for, whether it’s pests in the soil or financial risks in the market.

Consistency and faithful stewardship define their work, as success is built through steady, intentional effort over time.

At their core, both are caretakers, entrusted with preserving and enhancing something valuable for others to enjoy and benefit from.

Many Lessons Learned

Many lessons were learned as a landscape contractor and groundskeeper from the late 1980s until 2000.

From the people side and the business side.

The parallel between financial services and groundskeeping is undeniable.
